In order for someone under the age of 18 to use the internet, the parent or guardian must give
written permission. This applies to both our computers and our wireless network. When a child signs
up for a library card, the parent can give permission at that time.
If the child's card initially does not have internet access and the parent or guardian would later
like to add computer privileges, the parent must come into the library in person. The parent and
child need to go to the Circulation Desk, read the Internet Policy,
and the parent signs a form that gives the child permission to access the internet.
Because the computers that have word processing software also have internet access, the child needs
to have computer privileges to access those computers. The only computers that do not require
permission are ones that are only connected to the library catalog.
All patrons using the internet-enabled computers must have computer privileges. This includes looking
at a screen even if you are not logged on. Someone without computer privileges is not allowed to look
over the shoulder of someone who does have computer privileges.
We do not filter the Internet, so parents are warned to discuss appropriate Internet use with their
children.
