Resources and Displays
The Bryan + College Station Public Library System is excited to honor Black History Month with numerous resources, displays, programs and a Reading Challenge at all of our locations!
Our featured Black History Month Collection has hundreds of books and other media for all ages.
We will be showcasing our collection through various displays at both Mounce and Ringer Libraries. Our displays will be throughout the libraries and will give readers of all ages an opportunity to learn about prominent black authors.

Book Clubs
Sunshine Book Club
The Sunshine Book Club has selected Such a Fun Age, the debut novel of Kiley Reid in honor of Black History Month. With empathy and piercing social commentary, Such a Fun Age explores the stickiness of transactional relationships, what it means to make someone “family,” the complicated reality of being a grown up, and the consequences of doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

Comic Panel
The Comic Panel will also honor Black History Month with its selection of New Kid by Jerry Craft, a winner of the Newbery Medal, Coretta Scott King Author Award, and Kirkus Prize for Young Readers’ Literature. Perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Gene Luen Yang, New Kid is a timely, honest graphic novel about starting over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real.

Songs of the African American Soul: Jolie Rocke

Join us for musical performances by vocalist Jolie Rocke, accompanied by pianist Chelsea de Souza, to celebrate Black History Month. Songs will be by famous African American composers, and Jolie Rocke will share information about the history of the composers. Both Mounce and Ringer will have a performance, which is funded by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts and by the Friends of the Library. All ages and families are welcomed!
Free tickets will be given out 30 minutes before each performance. Seating is limited and will be available at a first come first serve basis.

Brazos’ African American Heavy Hitters
Did you know the African American community played an essential role in the infrastructure and growth of the Brazos Valley? Come learn more about how these “heavy hitters” who made an impact on the future of the Brazos region, Ages 16 and up. Registration required. Registration starts February 11 at noon.

Black History Month Bingo!
Every February we pay tribute to generations of African Americans by celebrating Black History Month. Join us this February by logging your reading, going to featured events, earning themed badges and make a Bingo! Make a Bingo by February 28th and your name will go into our drawing. Three winners will be chosen for a gift card to one of our black-owned local restaurants: Lamar & Niki’s, Remnants of Nawlins and Shannon’s Cafe! Make sure you log all your activities to earn a bingo by Feb. 28 to be entered into our drawing!
